Sky News take on what news the public wants

Image
This is from the weekend, Sunday morning on Sky. Polling of the public confirms that the news is about right. So what we got on Monday was about nothing on Farage and the £5m payment but Mail and Express front pages on "Brexit betrayal". Copied from YouTube shorts. Things could be very different. If there was some explanation of the economic consequences of Brexit there would be some interest. But what we seem to be getting is a form of journalism designed to make maximum trouble for the Prime Minister, partly to help other parties but also for quick bits of "news" , the latest gossip about disputes. More on this in future posts.

Introducing a new blog

This is a continuation of Fleet Street in Europe and cyberspace but also looking at Trump and USA. It turns out that the energy for Farage and Brexit came from USA as well as Russia.  The title is from a quote by Donald Trump. He has stated that Sir Keir Starmer is "not Winston Churchill". Some of us are glad about that. Churchill supported the CIA plot that put the shah back in Iran. Starmer avoided a similar situation for the UK. The UK newspapers have a much reduced operation compared to 2015 or 1915, Or 1895. USA social media matters more, including YouTube. It is now very difficult to put a case in the UK without getting into USA issues. The midterm elections will be an ocasion when issues around Trump could be debated in public. The Democrats can make statements that are reported, at least to some extent. In UK it is still widely accepted that Farage has met trump though this is not often repeated in recent weeks.
